What are the qualifications to rent a boat?

You must be at least 25 years of age and have prior boating experience. 

How do I make a reservation?

Call us at 1-877-787-3390 and speak to us directly.  We need half of the total rental fee at the time we book your reservation, and will ask for your name, address, work number, mobile phone and credit card information.  The reservation will be entered into our system and you will receive an email confirmation.  The remaining rental fee and a security deposit will be charged on the day the rental begins.  

How do I set up arrangements to get my boat?

Grand Haven Boat Rental is leasing the IN/OUT service at the Barrett Boat Works marina.  On your first day, we will meet you at Barretts for the necessary paperwork and a boat walk-through.  Your boat will be ready to go anytime after 9:00am on your scheduled start day.   

What is IN/OUT service???

This means the boat is put IN the water when you want to use it.  Barretts will put your boat in Spring Lake next to a large, stable, floating dock.  There is ample parking nearby to easily load your daily provisions.  You can even call ahead to save time!   

When you’re done, simply tie up the boat to the same dock and Barretts will take it OUT of the water.  The boat is then put away safely and securely in a large warehouse.  You can even leave personal items on the boat during your rental period! 

The IN/OUT service is great for folks staying in hotels or in town cottages, and is a quick, easy and convenient way to get on your boat. 

Would you deliver to a water front cottage?

If you are staying in a water front property on Spring Lake or the Grand River, and you have a dock that can accommodate the boat, we will deliver your boat at no charge and at your request.  You can keep the boat at your dock during the duration of your rental period; however, you are responsible to make sure the boat is secure when not in use. 

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask that should you have to cancel, we need at least a 14 day notice to refund your booking deposit less a $50.00 service fee.  If the 14 day notice has passed, the booking deposit will not be refunded.   

What do I need to bring?

Grand Haven Boat Rental supplies each boat with all emergency equipment, including adult and child-sized personal flotation devices (except the Pronto dinghy).  All you need are personal belongings – towels, sunscreen, coolers, etc.  And don’t forget a tie for your sun glasses! 

Do we have to pay for gas?

Yes, your boat will come with a full tank of fuel and we ask that it be returned full.  There is a gas dock right there at Barrett Boat Works.  If we have to refuel the boat for you, the cost to return the fuel level to full plus a service fee of $25.00 will be billed to your security deposit.

What if there is bad weather?  
Sorry, but we do not offer refunds for inclement weather.  

What are the rules or restrictions?

For the safety of our boaters, Grand Haven Boat Rental does not allow night time boating or any cruising on Lake Michigan. The boats we have available for rent are not equipped for after hours, and not designed for the changeable and sometimes dangerous conditions of Lake Michigan.  For a complete list of our rules and restrictions, please read:   GHBR Vessel Check List
